When shopping for a male chastity device—whether it’s your first or your 13th—you should feel confident that the chastity cage you’re buying is right for you.
To find the best cock cage, you need to consider:
- What it’s made of.
- Your lifestyle, and when you’ll be wearing it.
- The size, and making sure you get the right measurements.
- Whether it’s suitable and comfortable for short- or long-term chastity play.
In this super quick 5-part guide to male chastity cages, we’ll cover all these need to knows.
And because at Lock The Cock we consider ourselves cock cage connoisseurs, we’ll also share some chastity trivia you can use to boost your knowledge about the fetish (or impress your keyholder).
But let’s start with the absolute basics. Because once upon a time we were all new to chastity.
Part 1: What Are Male Chastity Devices?
A male chastity device is worn on the genitals. It restricts access to the area and, should the wearer get aroused, stops the penis from getting fully erect. This makes it impossible for the person wearing the cage to give penetrative sex (using their cock) while locked up.
A cock cage has three core components.
- The tube, which fits over the shaft of the penis.
- The ring, which fits over the testicles and holds the cage in place.
- The lock, which may be either:
- A key-operated or combination padlock.
- Built into the device.
Most cages have a hole at the end of the tube so the wearer can urinate and perform some cleaning without removing the device.
Did you know? The male chastity device is a relatively modern invention. Its association with, and believed popularity, in the Middle Ages is actually a myth.
Understanding how a chastity cage fits together and works is the easy bit. What’s harder to figure out (especially if you’re very new to the fetish) is why individuals and couples enjoy it.
Part 2: Why Guys Lock Their Cocks in Cages
Everyone’s motivation for locking their cock is personal. They may be driven by their beliefs about:
- Male sexuality.
- Female pleasure.
- Dominance and submission.
- Orgasm denial and/or control.
- Socially constructed ideas about gender roles.
Religion may also be a factor.
The Lock The Cock blog includes plenty of articles on why people choose the locked cock life.
Part 3: The Cock Cage Catwalk
If chastity devices came in one style and one color then it would be a dull, short-lived fetish. Every person’s body is different, so they need to come in different shapes and sizes. And as their experience grows, what they need from their male chastity cage evolves.
Thankfully, there’s a huge choice when it comes to cock cage styles. There are plenty of opportunities to change them and get a different feel. And, like a classic fashion outfit, you can even accessorize.
Different Cage Styles
The core components of a cage rarely change. The tube, ring, and lock are (nearly) always present. But an additional flourish or a twist in the tube design can create a completely different chastity experience.
Silicone and plastic – New to chastity? Then your first cage will likely be made of silicone or plastic. Chastity devices made from these materials offer a little give for greater comfort. They’re also discreet under clothing and, being lightweight, are comfortable to wear overnight or during exercise.
Metal – For those who want a constant reminder of their locked-up state, metal chastity devices are the way to go. Their sheer weight offers a regular tugging reminder of their presence. A metal cage will also last longer than plastic or silicone.
HolyTrainer – HolyTrainer is a cock cage brand that specializes in making cages from a bioresin that’s 100% natural and based on vegetable sugars. The result is a strong and malleable material that gives the wearer a better, more tailored fit.
Sissy cages – The world of chastity has a close affiliation with the sissy fetish. Sissy chastity cages are usually pink, small, and designed to make the penis as insignificant as possible.
Inverted cages – These are worn by people who have experienced chastity shrinkage and no longer need a cock cage with a tube. Inverted cages are almost flat, and push the penis back into the pelvis area. See our range of flat chastity cages. (If you’re not quite there yet, we have small chastity cages too.)
Catheter cages – Sounding is the act of inserting a thin tube or length or metal into the end of the penis and down the urethra. And some cages come with a urethral plug to cater for this advanced fetish play . Once they’re fitted and locked in place, the wearer can no longer urinate or ejaculate.
Chastity belts – Cages aren’t for everyone. Some prefer the extra support and security of holding their chastity device in place with a belt, or tucking their cock into a sleeve or pouch.
Style of locks – Some find the aesthetic of seeing a small padlock or combination lock attached to the device arousing. Others find a lock rattling around really impractical and choose a cage with a built-in lock for greater discretion. And for long-distance chastity or solo players there are time-controlled app locks such as the Cellmate.
Did you know? Professional Dominants may offer keyholding services. This is ideal for those without a partner, or whose partner doesn’t want to be a keyholder. Find out more about the role of a professional dominant in our article, More Than a Keyholder.
Chastity Accessories
There’s more to chastity play than just the cage. BDSM accessories can enhance the experience, and bring more sensation to your experience.
Assuming your keyholder (or your own moral code) allows it, you could indulge in some anal orgasms using a vibrator, prostate massager, or butt plug. (Locking butt plugs are also available if you want your anus to experience the same level of restraint.)
If your experience of chastity involves full male submission or sissification, you can accessorize with collars, lacy underwear, or BDSM implements such as spanking paddles.
Part 4: Measuring and Fitting
Being locked in a cage that’s uncomfortable really sucks. Minimize this risk by measuring yourself correctly and checking the device’s dimensions before purchasing. (We include the dimensions of all the cages we stock in our product descriptions.)
If you’re shopping for your first chastity cage, follow these steps to find the cock cage that’s the best fit for you.
Step 1: Measure Yourself
You’ll need two measurements:
- The circumference of your genitals.
- The length of your shaft.
Take a hot bath or shower, ensure you’re flaccid, and then measure:
- Around the shaft and behind the testicles (to get the circumference).
- From your pubic bone to the tip of your penis (to get the length).
Step 2: Get Your Ring Size
Divide your circumference measurement by 3.14 (the value of pi) to get the diameter measurement of the ring size you need.
Step 3: Get Your Tube Size
Subtract roughly ¼–½ an inch from your penis length measurement. Itisn’t an exact science, but it should give you a tube fit that feels secure but not uncomfortably tight.
Part 5: Ready to Load and Lock
You’re almost there. You have the essential knowledge you need to find a cage that will best fit your cock and your lifestyle.
Once your chastity device arrives (in its oh-so-plain packaging), you’re almost ready to load your cock into the cage and lock it up.
When this time comes, we suggest you:
- Wear your cage for a short time to start with.
- Let yourself get used to its weight, feel, and movement.
- Increase the wearing time gradually, and avoid wearing it overnight straight away.
- Figure out your cleaning routine, and the best way to keep your chastity play hygienic.
